The Gift of Harmony is a non-profit charity organization with the goal of providing impoverished schools around the globe with musical equipment.

OUR MISSION
We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn and enjoy music. We plan to provide musical supplies to schools that show an interest in music but are unable to pursue musical education due to a lack of resources.

Community projects
Our first project
We identified a school in Sri Lanka that cannot provide its students with the necessary musical equipment. There are many students who have shown interest and a passion to learn music. The school has requested donations to further expand their school band. The equipment that they already have is worn down and not in good condition. These students show much talent in oriental music. Our goal is to provide them with the required musical instruments to form the school oriental music band.

Outcome of Our first project
We are delighted to announce that we have successfully completed our first project. The pandemic was the most challenging obstacle to raising funds. Our positive attitude never stopped us from dreaming big. Savings from our pocket money and limiting other spendings, for example, saving the bus rides and walking to and back from school were some ways we collected the money. We also got a few donations from family members and friends. The outcome was delightful with the cheerful music from the brand new equipment at the concert held at Itthademaliya Maha Vidyalaya in Sri Lanka. The very talented young boys and girls clad in colourful traditional dresses enthusiastically exhibited their skills in oriental music on their special day!
This was our passion - to give the gift of harmony to the most needed people around the globe.

Oriental Music
Traditional music in Sri Lanka
Sri Lankan music is rich and diverse. It has been influenced by folk rituals, religious traditions, European influences, and Indian culture. The drum is the king of traditional percussion instruments and there are different types of drums to produce vibrant rhythms. Special woodwind instruments add delicacy to the Sri Lankan cultural bands. Sri Lankan music is an integral part of many native festivals. The annual “Perahara” a procession that manifests the preserved traditions, is undoubtedly the most treasured pageant by the Sri Lankans. Sri Lankans love to pass the musical traditions from one generation to the other while enriching their musical talents by incorporating modern music as well.
